Well, our house is slowly getting back to normal after a tummy bug, and the less said about THAT, the better!  On to brighter things.  Like new beads!  My mailbox has been an exciting place lately, and I thought I'd show you some of my new acquisitions. (You were warned, after all....this blog is called "Confessions of a Bead Addict"!)

First, these lovelies.
These beautiful snowflake beads are by lampwork artist Donna Millard https://www.etsy.com/shop/DonnaMillard (The three of them aren't meant to go together, that's just how they were sent.)  Aren't they gorgeous?  I sense.....pendants!  Simpler ones using the blue snowflakes, and something a little more fancy with the gold\silver snowflake.

Next up, these ones.
They aren't glass!  I decided to expand my selection of artbeads this year, and use both glass and other mediums.  These pretty, rustic snowflake charms are handcrafted porcelain.  I'm still pondering what to do with these ones....I'm sure I'll come up with something that will do them justice. These are by artist Diana Ptaszynski of Suburban Girl Studio www.suburbangirlstudio.com

...as well as these!
Gorgeous!  Do you sense a theme here....?

Rather than succumb to the winter blahs, I thought I'd try to make the best of the winter.  While it's true it doesn't snow very often here in the Lower Mainland of B.C.'s West (Wet!) Coast,. that doesn't stop me from enjoying the beauty of  snowflakes! (Though perhaps not quite so many snowflakes as much of the rest of Canada and parts of the U.S. have been experiencing lately...)  I'm waiting on a few nuts and bolts supplies to make their way to my mailbox, and then I'll be back to creating.  The necessary recovery from illness has meant I've had time to let my creativity start fizzing away after the Christmas holidays, and I'm raring to get back to designing and creating!

One more photo with which to leave you...

Birdies!  These fun, funky little birdies are the creation of Elaine of too aquarius https://www.etsy.com/shop/tooaquarius I think we often associate birds with spring, but we have loads of the little rascals in our yard this time of year, feasting from the feeders.  I sense some quirky earrings and a bracelet or two with these cute little beads.

I have more to show you, but it will have to wait for another day.  Must tend to my soup in a few minutes.  Might as well make the most of winter, and make life good and cozy!  I hope you get a chance to do the same!

Happy New Year and Welcome!

Happy new year to you all!  I'm starting the new year off by beginning a blog - appropriately named "Confessions of a Bead Addict"! Why that particular name?  I really, really like beads.  In fact, my bead stash has become so big that I simply must keep making jewellery for those gorgeous beads to see the light of day!  It doesn't hurt that designing and creating jewellery is something I'm passionate about, anyway, and would go quite mad without it =) .

I've been designing and creating jewellery for several years now.  I took the big plunge of opening an etsy shop last year, https://www.etsy.com/shop/BlueMerlinCreations, and  I host one or two jewellery shows in my home every year. I've also made my first foray into selling my pieces at more than one Christmas market this year - quite a bit deal for this stay at home mum with a six, four, and two year old!  I'm working on slowly building up a following of my work, and a blog seemed like the next logical step to take (and I have to thank a friend for suggesting it.  I'd been idly thinking about it of and on, but my friend's confidence in me was the catalyst...and aren't friends like that wonderful?  Sometimes we need a little push from someone else to take a step in a new direction!)

You'll find here photos of new pieces, musings about designing, new beads, the challenges of creating pieces around small children who are just as fascinated with beads as I am (yikes!), and anything else interesting that may occur to me.  I will warn you in advance that in a previous life (that feels like a hundred years ago!) I was an English major, and I do really enjoy writing....and sometimes like to write quite a lot =) .  (Please forgive any lapses in spelling and grammar....the do happen more often these days, as my brain's capacity is taken up more with life with young children than researching papers!)

I'll leave you with a photo I'm quite pleased with...shot on a very chilly (for here, on the West Coast of British Columbia) day in November -sparkling winter snowflake earrings.

Have a good start to your new year!
